Medicare Rebates

Psychologists & Accredited Mental Health Social Workers have been approved by the government to access Medicare rebates for some of their clients.  This recognises the need in the community for access to counselling services, and the skills these professionals have in providing such services.  Most other counselling professionals are ineligible for this rebate available through the "Better Access to Mental Health Care" initiative.

To be eligible for the rebates you must first see a doctor for what's called a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP).  An extended doctors appointment may be required for a MHCP to be completed, so its helpful to mention the reason for your appointment when booking.

If your doctor feels you are eligible for a MHCP you can nominate an accredited counsellor (Psychologist or Mental Health Social Worker) of your choice.  If you are interested in seeing me for counselling, provide the doctor with my details so they can write out the referral letter in my name.  Counsellors claiming Medicare rebates need a referral letter with their name on it before sessions are claimable, so it is important that you ensure your doctor writes the referral letter out to the counsellor of your choice.  If your MHCP was originally written out to another counsellor, you can contact the clinic you attended and request the letter be edited so it is addressed to me. They can also send it directly to me with your permission.

Note: Mental Health Care Plans only apply to some counselling clients and do not influence supervision or consulting costs listed.

About Me.

The following are important points about the process of booking, attending and paying for counselling

Most people want to get straight into why it is they're at counselling. However, when possible it is best to spend the first session getting to know more about your specific situation, including personal details, family history, significant milestones that have shaped your life etc.  Whilst some of these may not feel important to what you'd like to speak about, it often has an impact on how the practitioner can make sense of what you share and what you're hoping will be different after your sessions.

Payment for each session must be paid prior to or at the beginning of each session.  Whilst this is not the preferred option for practitioners either, unfortunately there have been occasions where payment has been delayed or never received. For this reason, payment for services is now requested up-front.

If you pay prior to the session via direct bank transfer, please ensure you have a payment receipt you can show me on arrival.  If you haven't paid prior, you will be charged on arrival.

Medicare rebates will be rebateable with the receipt I generate for you. The easiest way to be rebated is to take a photo of the receipt in the medicare app and send it for claiming. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
